Hack Overflow 1.0 is a 24 hours Hackathon, set to begin on 21st February. This is the first Hackathon event to be conducted by the Computer Science Department in Rajalakshmi Engineering College. This is to promote the competency skills and the technical prowess among students. It can be a great platform for all the participants, to expose themselves to path breaking ideas and highly useful implementations. This is a great opportunity for students to exhibit their innovative ideas and it will also serve as a great learning experience for all. The Hackathon will provide socially pressing problem statements and the participating teams should be able to provide solutions for the society. This also increases awareness and a holistic thought process among the youth. Various industry and academic experts are to join the Hackathon as the jury. This will also give a glimpse of the field to the teams and will put forth many career opportunities for the students. If the judges are impressed with the performance of the participants, they might even be awarded with opportunities such as internships and job opportunities. The participants are expected to maximise these opportunities and stabilise their careers.

Rules

1. Team size: 3 to 4 students.

2. Team leaders must fill their details along with other team members for registration and have to pay registeration fee of 150 per head which will be paid on spot during hackathon

3. The teams must register on our website and send in their abstracts from one of the given domains for preliminary selections on or before 16th February.

4. Each person in the team is requested to register individually and the registration amount per person is Rs.150. The registration fees should be paid on-spot.

5. The shortlisted candidates will be intimated with a set of domains from which they can choose.

6. Valid college ID proof is mandatory for all participating team members. The student will not be allowed to participate without his/her ID proof.

7. Teams are requested to bring their own laptops. High-speed internet will be provided throughout the event.

8. The teams are required to code/develop their solution only on-site from scratch.

9. There will be 4 rounds of evaluation among which the final round will be for the shortlisted teams from the previous rounds.

10. The teams are required to stay inside the college premises throughout the entire duration of the event and will be allowed to leave only after the hackathon ends. Adequate accommodation facilities will be arranged for boys and girls separately for convenience.

11. Information regarding team members seeking accommodation facilities (candidates who reside outside Chennai) should be informed prior in order to make necessary arrangements in the hostel.

12. It is mandatory that at least two of the team members should stay in the workplace throughout the event. Candidates can take turns and can make use of our college hostel to take occasional breaks.

13. Unlike on-spot payment, on-spot registration will not be entertained. Only shortlisted teams will be allowed to be a part of this event.

We need tech developers, makers, rebels who code and who are currently pursuing their under-graduation in Engineering.
Yes. An amount of Rs. 150/person is the registration fees and each member in the team is required to pay individually.
If you love to code and have a revolutionary idea, you are welcome for the Hackathon. All students are invited to register.
No, you cannot register as an individual. The team should have 3-4 members.
Bring your own laptop installed with necessary software development tools, any additional materials etc you may need for your allotted domain.
There is no restriction to use any programming language, technology stack, or libraries. You can use any of them to create your solution. You would need to provide the licensing information with a list of software used, if applicable.
To ensure a level playing field for all participants, all code and assets must be created during the hackathon. Failure to comply with this rule may result in the offending team's disqualification. You are, however, free to make plans, create wireframes, and brainstorm prior to the event.
The entire idea need not be fully implemented however, the submission should be functional so that it can be reviewed by the judges.
There will be a pitching session at the end of the hackathon for teams to present their ideas in front of the judging panel. Though it's not mandatory, it's advisable to submit a small presentation or video that demos your submission.
The judges will be looking at how unique and interesting your idea is, how close it is to being a product, how creative your solution is and how convincing your pitch presentation is.
Yes, we will be providing high speed wireless internet access to all participants. However, you are free to bring an internet stick as backup if you want.
No, it will not be provided, you need to get your own.
The developer/developers of the web/mobile application will have all rights and own the IP of the product. However, all code needs to be in public domain (open source) so that it can be evaluated by the judges.
Students can avail our college transport, if needed, after the completion of the event. Buses will be made available only after 3pm,22nd February, to drop candidates at specific points within the city.
